Announcement: Russia’s War Against Ukraine and the Dynamics of Global Nuclear Order

Nuclear weapons have been at the forefront since the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s frequent nuclear threats directed at both Ukraine and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have shocked publics and the media around the world. How might these Russian transgressions affect the global nuclear order? At this event, ETH Zurich Center for Security Studies’ Senior Researchers Alex Bollfrass and Stephen Herzog will discuss the implications of the war for nuclear proliferation, arms control, and the potential use of nuclear weapons.

Dr. Alex Bollfrass, a distinguished researcher in nuclear weapons and intelligence with a Security Studies PhD from Princeton University, brings a wealth of experience from institutions such as the Stimson Center and Arms Control Association in Washington, DC and the Davis and Belfer Centers at Harvard University.

Dr. Stephen Herzog, whose research focuses on nuclear arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament, holds a PhD in Political Science from Yale University and has contributed to esteemed organizations like the Federation of American Scientists and Harvard University's Project on Managing the Atom.

This enlightening discussion, conducted in English and accessible via Zoom, will be followed by a quick Q&A session and a brief Apero at the Foyer Semper Aula on G Floor, where you can continue the conversation in a relaxed setting.
