Announcement: Symbol of Identity (Screening of Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors ("Тіні забутих предків ") and Traditional Ukrainian Block Printing Workshop)

This August in Zurich, Ukrainian culture will speak through symbols.

On 20 August, on the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Ukrainian Association of Students and Academics in Zurich, in collaboration with the international initiative Symbols of Identity, presents a cultural evening that brings together contemplation and action — where classic art meets living tradition.

📽 18:30 — Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors “Тіні забутих предків”
A screening of Serhiy Paradzhanov’s poetic film, rich in ritual, folklore, and symbolic imagery drawn from Hutsul culture.Language: Ukrainian with English subtitles

🔨 20:30 — Unity Rushnyk
A hands-on block-printing workshop in the traditional Ukrainian technique of vybyika.
Participants will co-create a shared rushnyk — a ritual cloth where each imprint becomes a symbol of presence, connection, and solidarity. More than craft, it is a communal gesture of belonging.
