Movie Screening

Movie Screening "Khaytarma", May 22

On May 22, we had the pleasure of hosting the screening of Khaytarma — a moving film by Akhtem Seitablayev that tells the story of the 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatar people.

Before the screening, Elzara Oiseau gave a short but powerful talk, sharing her personal connection to the story. It reminded us all why these histories matter.

The film truly resonated with everyone. The acting, the music, and the atmosphere were incredibly moving — and the beautiful views of Crimea made many of us dream of visiting (again) one day . It was especially touching to see moments of peaceful everyday life — full of joy, warmth, and genuineness — that showed the spirit of the Crimean Tatar people before the tragedy unfolded.

After the screening, we were honored to speak with Akhtem in a live Q&A. He shared open and thoughtful reflections — from the emotional process of making the film to the challenges of gathering historical details through research in various archives.

A heartfelt thank-you to Akhtem Seitablayev, Elzara Oiseau, and everyone who joined us for this event.
