Movie screening "Slovo House"
Last Tuesday, on Aug 13, we screened a documentary “Slovo House”, directed by Taras Tomenko. The screening was organised in collaboration with the World Ukrainian Cooperation Society.
The documentary tells the story of Ukrainian writers who lived in the tragically famous Slovo House in Kharkiv during the 1930s. Where the initial renaissance of Ukrainian culture was abruptly cut short by the repressions of the Soviet regime, giving rise to the term “Executed Renaissance”.
Before the screening, we listened to two pieces from the novel by Ivan Bahrianyi (performed by Anna Ivanenchuk) and the poem by Pavlo Tychyna (sung by Diana Sytnychenko).
The screening was followed by a Q&A session with the director over Zoom, where all the attendees had the opportunity to ask questions about the film's production.
Thank you, Taras Tomenko, for your efforts in revitalising the history of Ukrainian culture. Thank you, World Ukrainian Cooperation Society, for your collaboration. And thank you to everyone who joined us for the screening!
