Співочий практикум з традиційного співу з Іриною Данилейко, August 19-22

From August 19 to 22, a traditional singing practicum took place in Zurich at ETH, led by folklorist and ethnomusicologist Iryna Danyleiko. Over the course of four evenings, participants explored the foundations of traditional vocal technique, stylistic features of songs from Ukraine’s Left Bank region, and the richness of wedding, summer cycle, recruit, and migrant songs. Special attention was given to the role of unison as a point of connection, helping singers not only to listen but truly to hear one another, creating harmony and shared resonance.

The practicum offered participants the chance to expand their vocal range, discover the individuality of their voices, and experience the collective pulse of group singing. On the final day, a special workshop was held for foreigners, welcoming people from different countries who came to learn and immerse themselves in the Ukrainian singing tradition. This exchange fostered a unique sense of community across cultures and left participants with both new songs and lasting inspiration.
